SUMMARY: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY – SPRING 2018 (UNPAID)
Under the oversight of the BPDA Records Manager, evaluate and catalog records in accordance with the Agency’s Records Management and Archival Policy, Agency’s Procedures and Departmental Records Management Guidelines. Identify metadata, create inventories, and prepare boxes of records for off-site storage. Digitize paper records and apply naming conventions to digital files. The intern will collaborate with the Records Management Staff and gain an understanding of the Agency’s past and current projects and activities. The intern will gain exposure to the complexities of contemporary archives and records management within municipal government. The intern shall maintain confidentiality and integrity of all information.

Undergraduate or graduate coursework in library and information science preferred. Candidates must have proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and familiarity with Google mail. Strong attention to detail, organizational, and administrative skills are required.
The internship site is in the BPDA’s offices at Boston City Hall. On occasion the intern may accompany Records Management Staff to the Archives Facility in West Roxbury. Candidates must have no airborne allergies.
Frequent lifting, carrying and positioning of boxes weighing up to 45 lbs.
DATES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: January 2018 to May 2018
Spring semester full or part-time unpaid internship available (minimum of 20 hours per week) with flexible hours and start date. Intern work schedule is open for discussion based on student and employer needs.
Participants in the Internship Program should be Undergraduate students, Graduate students or recent Graduates.
