TITLE:  PROJECT MANAGER  

 

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT:  OWD/ YOUTH DEPARTMENT

 

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director of OWD, provide development, support and evaluation to the department’s special projects initiatve. Particular attention will be provided to Boston’s ‘high need’ communities and ensuring the efficient, appropriate, and professional delivery of services to designated youth and adults, both in the community and in juvenile and adult facilities preparing for re-entry.  Serve as Project Manager and provide services for youth referred to OWD through the city’s community partners and city and state agencies Actively solicit referrals from multiple sources; serve as the primary contact for referring partners and agencies; ensure that all required documentation is completed and submitted, meeting deadlines. Guide customers through an assessment process to determine short and long-term goals.  Document information in Individual Service Plan (ISP); update with each customers quarterly.  Conduct safety checks/planning for all youth and adults served.

 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

  • Supervise and evaluate assigned special projects, ensuring the smooth delivery of services, case file completion and maintenance, completion of ISP’s (updated quarterly) with progress notes, and all other required documents on a daily basis. Coordinate services for youth and adults that subscribe to regular and special programming based on behavioral/cognitive delays.
  • Maintain and develop referral and service coordination partnerships with multiple entities including, but not limited to the Department of Youth Services,Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission, Department Mental Health, Department of Developmental Services, Department of Criminal Justice Information Services, Boston Career Link, and Action for Boston Community Development,, juvenile and adult probation, Boston Public Health Commission, Boston Public Schools, Boston Police Departmentand additionalcommunity partners. 
  • Organize and publicize mandated community awareness events.
  • Work collaboratively with the OWD’s team on projects that foster meaningful service learning projects for youth and adults.
  • Assist in the deveoplment of career services and placement component d that seeks to place customr in employment, post-secondary education, registered apprenticeship program or vocational training leading to industry recognized credentials.
  • Design, implement, and monitor ISP’s (goals and progress) in collaboration with served youth related to life-planning, crisis support, linkage to other programs, overall problem-solving assistance and advocacy.
  • Assist OWD youth and adult programs in development and “fine-tuning” service delivery systems. Attend partner meetings/events as required.
  • Interface with other providers in education, mental health, housing, childcare, training, and employment, to build new referral relationships for clients.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work requires completion of a Bachelor’s/Master’s Degree in social work, counseling or related field and/or 3-5 year’s related experience.  Requires experience working with ‘high-risk” or “at-risk” youth and adult populations and experience in workforce development, education and/or job development.  Excellent communication skills are needed.  Bilingual/Bicultural experience is highly desirable. Must be able to work as part of a team and be willing to work on the street and in other unstructured situations.  Must be able to work weekend and/or evening schedules as required. Computer literacy/typing skills are required.  Strong supervisory skills are needed. 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal office environment; occasional site visits.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Little or no exertion; occasional local travel.

 

SCOPE:

Supervises volunteers and interns as needed.
