TITLE: URBAN DESIGNER I
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION: URBAN DESIGN/PLANNING
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under direction of the Deputy Director for Urban Design or their designee (Senior Architect, Senior Landscape Architect, or the Urban Design Technology Group Manager), responsibilities may include: assist in preparing graphics and written expressions of urban design policies, studies, and presentation materials; assist in design review of Projects; provide support to the Department and to the Boston Civic Design Commission (BCDC); and, support Agency goals as part of Urban Design Project (Design) Reviews and Planning teams as assigned.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Work requires completion of a degree in Architecture, Urban Design, or Urban Planning, plus 0-3 years of related professional experience in urban design, planning, or architecture. Work requires ability to solve complex urban design, planning, and zoning problems; to analyze and interpret planning and design issues at a wide range of scales; to communicate clearly in both graphic and verbal form; and, to operate effectively as part of an interdisciplinary team. Familiarity with Boston’s neighborhoods is desirable. Candidate must additionally be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Strong 3D computer graphic skills allowing strong visualizations (building, site, urban planning, and various analytics) are an essential requirement; proficiency with office software including AutoCAD, SketchUp, GIS, PowerPoint, Adobe software, and/or equivalent programs is required. Active interest in working in a public sector review environment is key.
