    TITLE:          LEAD FINANCIAL COACH

      

    DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  ROXBURY CENTER FOR FINANCIAL EMPOWERMENT/OWD

     

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    Under direction of the Manager of the Roxbury Center for Financial Empowerment, the Lead Financial Coach is responsible for assisting Boston residents/clients to develop a plan of action intended to help them reach their financial goals and achieve economic stability.  This individual will manage a case load of clients, conduct one-on-one coaching, and facilitate workshops on topics such as budgeting, credit building, and banking products.  The Lead Financial Coach will work to ensure clients obtain assistance across these major service areas and will mentor other coaching staff to help improve their skills.  He/she will use Efforts to Outcome (ETO), a client management system, as well as other software, to document and reflect the outcome of clients in an accurate and timely manner and to analyze results.  The Lead Financial Coach will assist with recruitment, outreach and retention strategies for participants for 18-24 months.  He/she will also represent the Office of Financial Empowerment at community meetings and with partner organizations.

     

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

     

    • Conduct one-on-one coaching addressing personal finance, employment assistance, and income support, while developing rapport and an ongoing relationship with clients. Assist clients in resolving financial situations, interviewing skills, and identifying desired long-term goals. 
    • Work with clients to develop a budget and provide strategies for savings; access clients’ credit report/score and provide strategies for credit building; document the client’s balance sheet and provide strategies for increasing net worth; develop plans of actions and provide tools, resources, and accountability to clients to help them meet their goals; understand other services offered by the OFE, such as employment services, free tax preparation, and workforce development programs such as the Bridge to Hospitality, and connect clients to these other services.
    • Use Efforts to Outcome (ETO), to document and reflect the outcome of clients accurately and in a timely manner; complete the Combined Financial Assessment (CFA) for financial coaching clients; work with the entire RCFE team to ensure that any changes to the client’s CFA (new job, new benefit, change in credit score) are properly documented;
    • The Lead Financial Coach will assist with recruitment, outreach and retention strategies for 200 participants for 18-24 months. He/she may conduct workshops as a means of outreach and education; the classes may be part of a larger job readiness class offered by the RCFE or may conduct workshops for the public; develop workshop materials or tailor existing materials to meet the needs of the clients; workshop topics should be relevant to the community and may include topics such as budgeting, savings, banking products, credit building, identity theft, and more.   Conduct orientation sessions, if needed.
    • Monitor job retention and provide services to working clients; conduct general benefits screening for income supports; assist clients through the application process as needed; maintain contact with clients and document outcomes in ETO.
    • Work closely with the Financial Coaches to facilitate their work and help them meet their goals; lead a case management meeting weekly to share best practices.
    • Develop relationships with local financial institutions and community organizations; work with mainstream financial institutions to understand the needs of the community so they can provide products and services that serve residents; create a network of referral organizations to assist clients meet their goals and overall program success.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Work requires a Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Social Services, Public Administration, Finance or related field, and 3+ years of work experience.  Must have strong customer service skills and an in depth understanding of personal finance, particularly in the areas of budgeting, asset building, and credit building.  Must have experience providing one-on-one service delivery in the area of credit coaching, counseling, financial services to low and moderate-income service area population needs.  Must be a self-starter with strong team building skills; possessing strong communications skills, both written and oral; and the ability to provide financial coaching services in a culturally sensitive manner.  Must have strong computer skills, including proficiency in MS Word and Excel.  Must be Internet Resource savvy.  Bilingual skills, English/Spanish is highly desirable. 

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Normal office environment.   Occasional evening or weekend assignments.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Should be able to lift 25 pounds; some local travel.
