    TITLE:  COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

     

    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT:  PLANNING/DOWNTOWN & NEIGHBORHOOD PLANNING

     

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Under the supervision of the Deputy Director for Downtown & Neighborhood Planning, assist members of the Planning Department with the coordination of all outreach efforts related to planning and zoning initiatives in the neighborhoods and the Downtown.

     

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

    • Assist in representing the Planning Department in public forums, and coordinate with the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood Services, external agencies, as well as community, neighborhood and business organizations.
    • Assist in establishing policies, procedures, and practices to guide the Agency on matters related to community engagement.
    • Facilitate internal communication within the Agency and City relative to planning and zoning matters and promote public involvement.
    • Attend internal and external meetings concerning planning and zoning initiatives and actions.
    • Coordinate and interact with other agencies as needed regarding pending planning and zoning matters and related policy initiatives; contribute to the overall effectiveness of the Agency; represent Agency interests in multiple forums.
    • Establish and cultivate key relationships within the Agency, within City government, and externally.
    • Establish and maintain highly effective working relationships with professional and community organizations and committees, the public, and others encountered in the course of work.
    • Perform other related duties as required.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Work requires a Bachelor’s Degree or five or more years of related experience. The Community Relations Liaison must have knowledge of and familiarity with community outreach efforts in the City of Boston.  Strong project management and leadership skills are required.  Exceptional communication and presentation skills are also required.  The Community Relations Liaison must demonstrate an ability to work productively with all levels of management and staff of the Agency and City & State government.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Normal office environment.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Little or no exertion; occasional local travel.
