    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The SPARK Boston intern will work out of the 9th floor of Boston City Hall. The intern will get a sense for how the state legislature, federal regulations, affect big projects and policy proposals related to city government.

     

    Some duties may include:

    - Assist with public relations

    - Develop spreadsheets related to information about partner organizations

    - Develop spreadsheets related to information about vendors and event venues

    - Research new sites to host events

    - Research organizations similar to SPARK Boston in other cities and gather information about what they are doing

    - Assist with creating newsletters

    - Assist with event management and execution

    - Organize neighborhood social events

    - Connect with local small businesses who provide free space and arrange tours

    - Staff large scale events

    - Participate in group interviews for council members

    - Attend meetings with external stakeholders, new council members, partner organizations, prospective SPARK applicants and alumni

    - Attend City of Boston cross-department meetings, intergovernmental department relations meetings and Mayor’s scheduling meetings

    - Create a public relations plan that addresses how to partner with different organizations to get donations, to help build awareness, to increase event attendance and to increase engagement of constituents

    - Develop marketing collateral

    - Assist with social media strategy and calendar

    - Create graphics through software such as Canva

    - Help brainstorm event ideas

    - Create Instagram stories to use as recruitment tool and as a way to drive engagement

    - Develop blog posts with different council members

    - Assist with updating the website

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Required

    - Junior, Senior, or Recent Alum

    - Strong writing skills

    - Sense of humor

    - Sense of discretion, good judgement and ability to keep information confidential

    - Possess an active Twitter and Instagram account

    - Timely, detail oriented

    - Familiarity with Google Docs

    - Ability to make phone calls

    - Professionalism

    - Ability to dress appropriately for the position

     

    Preferred

    - Experience with mass email software such as MailChimp

    - Public Relations majors a plus

    - Prior internship experience with social media and marketing


    Dates Of Internship Program: September 2018 to December 2018

     

    Fall full- or part-time unpaid internship available (20-35 hours per week) with flexible hours and start date. Intern work schedule is open for discussion based on student and employer needs.
