    TITLE:          SENIOR GRAPHIC DESIGNER

     

    STATUS:       EXEMPT

     

    DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:  MANAGEMENT & INFORMATION SERVICES

     

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:  

    Under the direct supervision of the Chief Information Officer (CIO), the Senior Graphic Designer will be responsible for serving the creative needs of the boston Planning & Development Agency, (bpda) across all departments, and the City of Boston.   They will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following graphic design and photography tasks:

     

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    *The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

    • Increase user friendliness in digital products
    • Work closely with project management, content teams and web developers to translate brand, marketing and creative strategies into high-quality deliverables.
    • Liaise with IT staff, business owners and design team to ensure deadlines are met
    • Conceptualize, design, and produce graphics for a wide range of graphic needs of the bpda and other City departments/agencies
    • Create print/digital marketing and presentation materials including flyers, brochures, handouts etc.  Work with different departments on creating publications, reports, booklets, ads and infographics using data as needed.
    • Design original pieces, including illustrations and infographics
    • Lead design “briefs” to record requirements and clients needs
    • Create/improve designed materials and templates to fit the bpda brand guide
    • Take staff headshots for the website and internal communications
    • Give guidance and direction to contracted photographers and coordinate shoots
    • Manage stock photography purchases/licensing and digital asset management
    • Reviewing junior designers’ work to ensure high quality
    • Apply typography techniques
    • Stay up-to-date with industry developments and tools
    • Perform other related duties as required.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    Work requires a Bachelor's degree in relevant design filed, a technically strong portfolio, relevant class work, plus 3-5 years of related professional experience.   Master’s Degree can be substituted for three (3) years of required experience.   Must have strong technical skills and experience with the Adobe Creative Suite (CS6 or higher), most importantly: Illustrator, InDesign, Lightroom, and Photoshop.  Experience with Wordpress and Digital Asset Management Systems is a plus.  Skills required also include the ability to create simple and concise visuals to illustrate complex procedures/processes, branding knowledge and experience, strong typography skills, and experience editing/retouching photographs.

    Normal office environment 

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

    Occasional lifting of materials, exhibits, etc. ; handling sharp knives or instruments; some exposure to chemicals and solvents.
