    TITLE: CITY ACADEMY INTERN

     

    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: OFFICE OF WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT/ SPECIAL PROJECTS 

     

    SUMMARY: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY – FALL 2018 

     

    Under the direction of the Assistant Deputy Director of Special Projects provide support to the City Academy pilot to help increase the program’s evaluative capacity and assist in general program administration. City Academy is a training pipeline for Boston residents to access entry-level City of Boston positions with: Good pay, health benefits, pensions, union membership, and opportunities for advancement. The City Academy Intern’s role will include supporting the development of new data collection tools, improving data collection systems and data quality, assisting with participant tracking as they progress in the program, post program completion, and during the job placement process. Specific tasks shall include, but not necessarily be limited to:

     

    • Become familiar with City Academy’s data collection, analysis, and reporting process, and how it relates to ongoing program day-to-day operations, evaluation, and program improvement.
    • Collaborate with City Academy staff and stakeholders to identify key data points and analyses to be included to inform daily program administration and ongoing assessment.
    • Ensure all relevant data is cleaned and accurate to increase precision of analysis.
    • Support the development of and enhance participant survey instruments.
    • Assist in creating and producing reports for internal and external audiences though data analysis, interpretation, and visualization.
    • Provide support to community outreach efforts to promote City Academy program and other OWD special projects initiatives.
    • Perform other duties to support program administration as requested.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS:  

    • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets and desire and willingness to learn and master more advanced capabilities.

    • Strong attention to detail, organizational, and administrative skills are required.
    • Previous related internship and/or work experience desirable.
    • Undergraduate or graduate coursework in public administration, social work, public policy, or economics a plus.

    • Commitment to advancing opportunities for Boston residents to achieve upward economic mobility, especially lower- skilled individuals, with multiple barriers to employment.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: Normal office environment; occasional local site visits.

     

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, employees are regularly required to sit, walk and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle files and operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 25 pounds; occasional local travel.

     

    DATES OF INTERNSHIP: September 2018 to December 2018

    Fall semester part-time internship (10-20 hours per week) with flexible hours and start date. Intern work schedule is open for discussion based on student and employer needs. Flexible to work with candidates to sponsor arrangement for course credit.
