SUMMARY: INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY – FALL 2018 (UNPAID)
Under the direction of Senior Planners, support public outreach and its internal coordination. Assist with public process, document production, workshops, as well as planning, zoning and land use regulation initiatives. The intern will work directly with staff, embedding in the teams leading planning initiatives in Boston’s Dorchester, East Boston, and Newmarket neighborhoods.
Provide assistance on the following projects:
Design novel means of visualizing planning and zoning concepts.
Design effective community engagement exercises.
Research relevant best practices for planning and zoning initiatives.
Possible opportunity for self-directed research: the department seeks to optimize data management and pattern recognition for the body of work generated by its review of applications to Boston’s Zoning Board of Appeal.
Note: This is an unpaid Internship (see below)
Applicant must be currently enrolled in a master’s program in city planning, urban design, architecture or real estate. Proficiency with Adobe InDesign, Illustrator, and Photoshop is required. (If the intern is interested in pursuing research related to the department’s review of Zoning Board of Appeal cases, experience with statistical and spatial analysis is preferred.) While the internship is unpaid, interns typically arrange funding for work at the BPDA through their academic program or other outside sources, with the support of BPDA staff.
DATES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: October 2018 to December 2018
Fall internship available with flexible hours and start date. Opportunity to extend internship into spring semester. Intern work schedule is open for discussion based on student and employer needs.
Participants in the Internship Program should be graduate students.
