TITLE: RESEARCH ASSISTANT
SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Director of Research, provide data and research for BPDA, the City of Boston, and related organizations. Participate in research projects on Boston’s economy, government, and population. Prepare research reports, maintain databases; perform statistical analysis. Collaborate in planning and developing research strategy and methodology.
GENERAL DUTIES, SKILLS, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The general duties, skills, and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.
The Researcher collects, analyzes, and develops data on Boston’s economy, demographics and commercial markets using statistical and graphical presentations, and contributes to research reports that may be included in City documents or published. The Research Assistant must have a clear understanding of the US Census Bureau’s databases and data definitions, and have strong communication skills, both written an oral, to communicate research findings to a wide audience.
Responsibilities and Technical Skills
KNOWLEDGE & EXPERIENCE:
Work requires a Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, urban planning, sociology, public policy, related field, or equivalent. Must have excellent analytical skills, be able to collaborate and work under the direction of senior staff, as well as work well independently. Must have experience in assisting and executing various aspects of a research project, including data cleaning, data analysis, visual presentation of data, and documenting results.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Normal office environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Little or no exertion.
