    TITLE: ACCOUNTANT I

     

    DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: BUDGET & FINANCE

     

     

    **BOSTON RESIDENCY IS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

     

    SUMMARY:   

    Under the direction of the Controller and Senior Accountant, the Agency is seeking an Accountant I responsible for various general accounting activity to include but not limited to: developing and producing detailed accounting reports, preparing general ledger journal entries, balancing and reconciling accounts, reviewing and producing monthly accounts receivable reports, assisting with select budgeting and annual closing activities as well as assisting on various assigned projects.

     

    GENERAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    *The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

    • Compile, prepare and produce accurate and timely reports.
    • Prepare monthly journal entries; perform reconciliations of general ledger accounts.
    • Collaborate within Budget & Finance department and with all Agency departments.
    • Prepare information for periodic and year-end audits; provide assistance to internal and external auditors.
    • Assist in annual budgeting process; produce budgets as needed; identify variances on an ongoing basis.
    • Act as backup for other accounting functions (A/R, A/P, Payroll etc.) as assigned.

    Manage special projects for department and division and perform related duties as requested.

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Work requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting and/or Associates degree with a 1-5 years of experience. General understanding of accounting software systems is required. Must be a proactive problem solver who is well organized, detail-oriented, deadline driven, and self-directed. Must strive for continual personal and process improvement with an ability to affect change.  Strong prioritization skills to affect and direct an orderly flow of accurate information within the Budget & Finance Division and to other parts of the organization are needed.  Must have proficiency in Microsoft office suite and well developed oral and written communication skills.
