    TITLE: URBAN RENEWAL INTERN  Winter - Spring

     

     

    SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    The Urban Renewal Intern will be responsible for supporting the Urban Renewal project manager as well as serving the needs of the Boston Planning and Development Agency and the City of Boston. They will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following tasks:

     

    GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included but not limited to the information listed below.

     

    • Document collection, scanning into the centralized database, recording discovery and scanning time.
    • Assist in discovery of LDA and BPDA Owned Property related documents.
    • Assist in reconciliation of Urban Renewal Parcel ID and Assessing Parcel ID.
    • Assist in the mapping of UR parcels and reconciling with COB assessing data.
    • Other tasks related to the data collection of the Urban Renewal project.



    • In support of the Urban Renewal Team, type, edit, proofread and produce correspondence, memoranda, reports, technical documents, and other materials, using word processing, power point, and spreadsheet software.  Draft letters for supervisor’s signature. Assist in the creation of GIS Maps and board materials. Distribute and forward approved materials.  

     

    • Maintain meeting calendar.  Assist the set up and coordination of Urban Renewal community meetings including other special events at the agency.  Schedule additional internal and external meetings for and with Agency staff, as requested. Coordinate set-up, preparation and distribution of materials, and other logistical arrangements for internal and external community meetings.  Take meeting minutes as assigned. Community Meetings may exceed the regular work hours.

     

    • Develop an active knowledge of ongoing projects so as to best serve the Urban Renewal team. 

     

    • Special Projects as assigned. (Out of Office Assignments including Photo Inventory of BPDA Owned Parcels and LDA Inventories). 

     

    QUALIFICATIONS: 

    Work requires completion of a Bachelor’s Degree plus 1-3 years of comparable work experience.  An interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the field of Planning, Urban Design or related fields are highly desirable.  Must have exceptional organizational skills and be comfortable handling several tasks at once. Requires excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; research skills; and, familiarity with office management.   Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs, including but not limited to: PowerPoint, Word, and Excel. Familiarity with scheduling or scheduling software is preferred.

     

    WORK ENVIRONMENT:

    Normal office environment.

     

    PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:

    Little or no exertion; may spend extended periods at keyboard.  Must have ability to attend occasional evening meetings with staff to take minutes.

    Not applicable.

     

    DATES OF INTERNSHIP PROGRAM:  December 2019 - June 2020

    Semester part-time unpaid Internship (20 hours per week).  Schedules open to discussion based on student and employer needs.
