Walsh in 2014 to connect City residents with access to programs that will help them build assets and achieve financial wellness. Boston Saves, the City’s Children’s Savings Account program, is part of the Office of Financial Empowerment.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Under the direction of the Deputy Director of the Office of Financial Empowerment and the Office of the Mayor, and in close partnership with the Boston Public Schools, the Boston Saves Program Manager is responsible for the management, operations, and administration of Boston Saves, the City’s innovative Children’s Savings Account program, and will work closely with school administrators, parents, and funders to advance this initiative.

 

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages all day-to-day aspects of the Boston Saves program; implements and evaluates changes to improve program results, operations, and efficiencies; determines and implements policies, procedures, best practices, priorities, and performance standards
  • Oversees and implements program evaluation, data collection and data management, research, and reporting
  • Collaborates with the Office of Financial Empowerment (OFE), Office of Workforce Development (OWD); Boston Public Schools (BPS), Office of the Mayor, other City agencies as appropriate, and community partners to set the strategic direction for Boston Saves, developing goals and objectives and identifying the means to meet them
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all key relationships for Boston Saves program including City agencies, the Boston Public Schools, financial institution partners, community groups and non-profits, evaluators, vendors, national stakeholders, and other program partners
  • Works with OWD, BPDA, BPS, and Mayor’s press teams to promote Boston Saves through engagement with media and community organizations; may operate as a spokesperson for Boston Saves
  • Designs, leads, and implements all community outreach and marketing efforts in order to drive program participation and increase families’ engagement with the program and savings rates
  • Assists with development and helps implement fundraising strategies to raise funds from private, corporate, and individual philanthropy; manages funder relationships, tracks grants, and produces grant reports
  • Works with OWD/OFE finance team to develop and manage the program budget, tracking invoices, grants, and all other financial aspects of the program
  • Works with the fiscal agent for the program to oversee seed and incentive funding for the program, custodial accounts, school stipends, and other Boston Saves funds managed by that fiscal agent
  • Develops contracts and manages scopes of work for financial institution partners, database provider, community partners, and other vendors
  • Recruits and manages Boston Saves staff, volunteers, contractors, AmeriCorps VISTAs, interns/fellows, and handles relevant personnel-related administrative tasks
  • Performs other related duties as required. Must be able to articulate the mission, objectives, and programs of the Office of Financial Empowerment and the Office of Workforce Development

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree required (Master’s preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in non-profit programming, community relations, or institutional advancement
  • Multilanguage skills preferred
  • Prior experience managing programs in a non-profit environment
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and community relations experience
  • Ability to organize and manage events and competing priorities
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing priorities in a highly flexible environment
  • Willingness to work weekends and nights on occasion and attend events outside of traditional work hours throughout the city of Boston and travel by public transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT

 

  • Standard office environment; position located at Roxbury, MA
  • Frequent standing and walking; may require occasional lifting and carrying over 25 lbs
  • Local travel expected
