The Department of Budget & Finance oversees the financial health of many Boston programs and helps the agency build and manage assets and achieve financial wellness.

     

    POSITION OVERVIEW:

    Under the direction of the Assistant Controller and with general guidance provided by the Deputy Controller, manage and maintain general ledger accounts for the agency and select entities. This person is required to produce periodic financial statements; maintain and reconcile general ledger and ensure the accuracy of all transactions and reports.

     

    ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Post and balance general ledger entries for selected corporate entities; perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.
    • Identify and prepare financial information necessary to reclassify revenues and expenses and recommend changes to supervisor
    • Compile, prepare and produce timely comprehensive financial statements (monthly, quarterly and ad-hoc) and analyze the financial statements and resolve discrepancies
    • Review loan documents and external financial statements as assigned; prepare and produce comprehensive monthly treasurer reports for selected entities
    • Ability to plan and execute time sensitive and confidential activities
    • Compile and prepare information for periodic and year-end audits; assist internal and external auditors as assigned
    • Reconcile tenant billing to Yardi rent roll schedule
    • Support month-end and year-end close process
    • Ensure compliance with GAAP principles
    • Lipase with finance and other departments to improve financial procedures
    • Reconcile salary and wage expenses to ADP payroll records for accuracy as needed
    • Prepare quarterly true ups for all Fringe Expenses accounts to detail
    • Assist in the annual budget (operating and capital) development process as needed
    • Provide information for federal loan program related to the semi-annual EDA report and work closely with the program manager to ensure accurate entity reporting
    • Assist in special projects and other related duties as assigned
    • Perform other related duties as assigned

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

    • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related discipline
    • MBA or Master's degree in related discipline preferred 
    • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience in general accounting, with a strong focus on general ledger management
    • Proficiency in Financial Edge preferred along with Microsoft suite, office software and automated accounting modules preferred
    • Experience in the non-profit or public secotor a plus
    • Positive attitude and eagerness to grow and learn a must
