**BOSTON RESIDENCY IS A CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT**

 

TITLE:          ACCOUNTING MANAGER

 

GRADE:        L                                                         STATUS:       EXEMPT

 

DIVISION/DEPARTMENT: FINANCE

                                                           

SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Controller , manage and maintain financial accounts for Agency corporate entities; Produce timely periodic financial statements and reports; Oversee accounts payable/receivables, and capital assets activities. Responsible for day-to-day supervision and leadership of assigned accounting staff. Ensure the accuracy of all transactions, general ledger activity and reports.

 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The general duties and responsibilities of the position are included in but not limited to the information listed below.

 

  • Manage and supervise accounting department employees; including one full time Accountant I, one full time Accounting Assistant , and one part time Financial Coordinator , responsible for day-to-day supervision and leadership.
  • Supervise Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and Depreciation schedule processes to ensure accurate and timely posting of activities.
  • Post and balance all general ledger entries; perform monthly reconciliation of general ledger accounts.  
  • Identify and prepare information necessary for the reclassification of revenues and expenses; make recommendations to Controller.
  • Produce accurate and timely comprehensive monthly financial statements.
  • Develop Excel based models for data analysis activities.
  • Assists in maintaining accounts for Agency entities and assists in publishing and reviewing financial statements.
  • Manage city, state, and federal grant documents, contracts and related sources of funding and expenditures.
  • Adjust all General Ledger Accounts based on changes to all financial instruments on a timely basis, at a minimum on a monthly basis.
  • Produce the annual 1099 statements for filing.
  • Assist with the data collection requirements for periodic and year-end audits; provide assistance to internal and external auditors.
  • Develop, and manage on an ongoing basis escrow accounts,community benefits funds,  fixed assets, and depreciation schedules. 
  • Produce monthly cash and bank statements as required reports for review with select senior finance staff.
  • Perform wire transfers and other banking activities as directed and according to standards.
  • Assist with the review of tenant leases for selected corporation(s); direct the updating of  Rent Rolls ensuring correct Tenant Billing.  
  • Review and implement changes to the capital budget files on an ongoing basis.
  • Provide functional advice, guidance, and direction to accounting staff. Assist in development and implementation of new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department.
  • Maintain current knowledge of accounting standards and guidelines.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Work requires completion of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance plus five to seven years of general accounting experience, with a strong focus on general ledger management.  Mininum of three years of supervisor experience is required A Masters in Businesses Administration (or similar) is preferred, but not required. Proficiency with office software and automated accounting modules is required. Focused attention to detail and deadlines and  adherence to the ethical application of accounting standards required.  Collegial, can-do attitude a must.  

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Normal office environment.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Little or no exertion; may spend extended periods at terminal.
