SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Deputy Director for Regulatory Planning and Zoning, support the Senior Zoning Planner in a variety of capacities including, but not limited to, Board of Appeals and Zoning Commission actions, assist with general zoning information as well as day-to-day administrative duties. 

 

GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The primary responsibilities of the Zoning and Regulatory Planning Assistant will be to support the Regulatory Planning and Zoning Department functions within the Planning Division, including drafting letters, typing, editing, and proof-reading documents and correspondence, memoranda, reports, technical documents, and other materials using word processing and spreadsheet software.  Maintain meeting calendars, manage the scheduling and coordination of meetings, presentations, and other events. 

 

Assist the Senior Zoning Planner in the organization and administration of Zoning Commission hearings for the City of Boston, including preparation and distribution of agendas, scheduling of meetings, organization and distribution of materials in advance of hearings, recording of hearings and preparation of minutes, arrangement of translation and interpretative services, and follow-up on action items. Manage maintenance and updating of Commission records, advise public, City officials and other interested parties in Zoning Commission procedures and public hearing protocols. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS 

Work requires completion of a Bachelor’s degree plus 1-3 years of comparable work experience.  An interest in pursuing an advanced degree in the field of Planning is desirable.  Must have exceptional organizational skills and be comfortable simultaneously handling multiple tasks.  Requires excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, research skills and familiarity with office management.  Requires proficiency with Microsoft Office programs including but not limited to PowerPoint, Word and Excel.  Familiarity with scheduling software preferred.
